Development objectives

An aim was to develop the original floor material, which has low-VOC levels, and produce a product which contains no harmful substances.
Another aim was to develop a tile which could absorb chemical substances generated from furniture and walls, and create an even safer environment within the home.
Research details:
Antibacterial action of Rattan

Studies were done on the antibacterial action of Rattan.
It had a natural antibiotic property, without the use of chemical substances. With Rattan's antibacterial action a safe product
could be made.

Absorption of harmful substances A safer housing environment is aimed at, by Rattan absorbing chemical substances generated from furniture and walls.
Elasticity A previous warping characterisitic is eliminated by reducing the stretching
rate, and the durability of rattan tiles . .
1. Antibacterlal activity

"It is said that when fingers are cut by Rattan, they do not get infected."
This suggests that Rattan has natural infection fighting properties.
When antibiotic tests against Bacillus Subtilis were carried out on methanol extracted from Rattan, obvious antibacterial activity was exhibited. In the future, Rattan is expected to be used as a natural
anitbaoterial material.

2. Absorption Capabilities

"Because Rattan is porous, it is considered that Rattan has good absorption capabilities.
In a recent experiment ( a 24 hour absorption test using the Tedler Bag Method ), flgures showed high absorption capabilities. In addition to a natural antibacterial property, it appears that Rattan could offer prospects as a material to be used as a low-VOC housing construction material as a measure against (sick house syndrome) problems with the house.

3. Expansion and contraction abilities of Super Rattan Tiles
and measurement of diffused formaldehyde

( North Eastern Industrial Research Center of Shiga Prefecture )

Under the direction of Mr.Kimura of North Eastern Industrial Research Center in Shiga Prefecture, moisture resistant tests, and warp resistant tests were carried out. Also, tests were carried out to satisfy that Rattan tiles, for required safety standards for the use as a commercial product, did not contain harmful substances such as formaldehyde. All these tests were successful. In the formaldehyde diffusion method (desiccator method), test results of 0.13 were obtained. Rattan tiles, which are easy to replace when they are fixed with tape, are now available.

This product is available in two types: a wet type which is used in humid rooms and a dry type which is used in dry rooms.

Formaldehyde diffusion test

Formaldehyde diffusion rate 0.3 mg/1 or less ( standard value of class)
Super Rattan was not tested in formaldehyde control subject tests . However the formaldehyde diffusion test was carried out.
The test result indicated that the dlffusion rate was 0.3mg/1 or less. You can use Super Rattan tiles with comfort. However almost care should be paid when using adhesives
to secure tiles to the floor material.
